BLOOMINGTON—The Monroe County Democratic Party is thrilled to announce the return of the highly anticipated Roosevelt Reception on Wednesday, May 29th. This year’s event promises to be memorable, featuring keynote speaker Congressman André D. Carson.
Congressman Carson, who has served in the U.S. House of Representatives since 2008, has established himself as a prominent leader and dedicated public servant. He is widely recognized for his unwavering commitment to fighting for good-paying jobs, promoting economic growth, and ensuring safer communities for Indiana’s working families.
Throughout his tenure, Congressman Carson has consistently championed the interests of the middle class, securing substantial investments in public safety, education, and infrastructure. His efforts have created and protected thousands of jobs within Indiana’s 7th Congressional District. He is also known for his dedication to accessibility, regularly holding meetings and “Congress on Your Corner” events to connect with constituents and provide them with essential resources and information.
Congressman Carson’s influence extends beyond his district. He is a member of several key caucuses and coalitions, including the Congressional Black Caucus, the Progressive Caucus, the New Democrat Coalition, and the LGBT Equality Caucus. His work on Capitol Hill includes advocating for landmark legislation such as the historic health care reform law and Wall Street Reform.
As the first Muslim to serve on the House Intelligence Committee, Congressman Carson holds a significant role in national security. He currently chairs the Counterterrorism, Counterintelligence, and Counterproliferation Subcommittee and recently oversaw the first congressional hearing on Unidentified Aerial Phenomena (UAPs) in over 50 years. He also serves on the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee and the Select Committee on the Chinese Communist Party.
A rising star in House leadership, Congressman Carson is a Senior Whip for the House Democratic Caucus, allowing him to advocate for his district at the highest levels of congressional influence. As one of only four Muslims in Congress, he is a vocal advocate for vulnerable populations, championing gender fairness, religious freedom, and LGBTQ equality.
A proud Indianapolis native, Congressman Carson’s background includes service on the Indianapolis City-County Council and experience in law enforcement, intelligence, and counter-terrorism.
