Duke Energy has restored power to 77 customers in Monroe County

MONROE CO. – As of 8 a.m. on Sunday, May 18, Duke Energy has restored power to all but 77 customers in Monroe County. The remaining outages are customers who were in the direct path of the tornado. Restoration efforts in the hardest-hit areas have been affected by the debris, downed trees, and significant destruction of homes and structures in the area.

Crews have continued working around the clock to restore service and hope to have most of the remaining customers restored by 5 p.m. this evening. However, some customers will be unable to accept power due to the extent of structural damage to their properties. In some cases, no home or business is left to connect to power.

Safety remains a top priority for our workers and customers. Duke Energy will restore power to the remaining customers as safely and quickly as possible.
