Seymour dampens BNL’s Senior Night with 4-1 win

BNL senior Lauren Salzmann posted a win at No.1 singles to celebrate Senior Night for the Stars.

BEDFORD – Seymour swept the doubles while dampening Bedford North Lawrence’s Senior Night celebration with a 4-1 victory during girls high school tennis action on Tuesday.

BNL’s only win came at No.1 singles, with Lauren Salzmann shifting over from doubles to record a 2-6, 3-0 (retired) win over Haley Heckman.

“Lauren played probably her best match all year,” BNL coach Ian Dillman said. “I was thinking to myself she should have moved to singles a long time ago. I just couldn’t give up a dominant doubles player like her. She struggled a little in the first set with overthinking things, but she was able to take off in the second and get up 3-0 before Seymour’s player had a medical episode and had to retire.”

The Owls dropped only two games on the other four courts. At No.2 doubles, BNL seniors Tori Logsdon and Lyla Stivers made their varsity debut.

“They teamed up for their first varsity match and they hit some great shots,” Dillman said. “I saw a few with some good angle shots and some unreturnable winners. We weren’t able to get a good footing for most of the match, but regardless my seniors gave it their all on their night.”

The Stars (3-8) will host Edgewood on Thursday.
