“In Indiana, we do not support defunding the police – we support defending the police,” Lieutenant Governor Beckwith said. “Our goal is to ensure that our officers have the backing they need through strong policies and effective leadership.”

The ceremony honored law enforcement officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty. Family members, community members, and elected officials gathered to show their respect for the sacrifices and bravery demonstrated by the men and women in blue.

“Every officer we remember today stepped into a calling that most of us can’t fully understand,” Lieutenant Governor Beckwith said. “When others run from danger, they run toward it. When others freeze in fear, they respond with courage.”

Lieutenant Governor Beckwith ended with a prayer, asking for continued protection for police officers and comfort for the families who have lost a loved one.
