NORTHWEST INDIANA—On Saturday evening, May 3, the Indiana State Police Lowell Post hosted a multi-jurisdictional criminal and traffic law enforcement blitz that focused patrol efforts in northern Lake, Porter, and LaPorte Counties.
Officers from many local police departments supported the blitz, including the Lake, Porter, and LaPorte County Sheriff’s Departments, Gary Police, Hammond Police, Crown Point Police, New Chicago Police, Portage Police, Porter Police, and the Hebron Police Department.
This blitz also utilized the Indiana State Police Aviation Section, which operates out of Greenwood. The helicopter was able to locate a vehicle that had attempted to elude officers near Kennedy Ave. in Highland. That driver was charged with participating in a speed contest, among other charges.
As a result of the blitz, the following statistics were compiled:

- Warnings: 135
- O.W.I.: 15
- Speeding 100 MPH+: 10
- Vehicles Towed: 6
- Reckless Driving: 6
- Criminal Charges: 32
- Suspended Drivers: 13
- Crash Reports: 4
- Drug Arrests: 8
- Police Services: 13
- Warrant Arrest: 1
- Window Tint: 2
- Seatbelt: 5
This is an incomplete list of the activity from Saturday’s blitz, as some have yet to be compiled.
Lt. Terrance Weems, Commander of the Indiana State Police Lowell Post, commented, “I want to thank each agency that participated Saturday with this focused patrol in our district. The support that each of our law enforcement partners displays daily is something that our communities should take note of and can be proud of. We go where there is a need and make “The Region” safer for everyone.”
