Wonder Valley Christian Camp embarks on expansion project

SALEM – Wonder Valley Christian Camp is moving forward with an expansion project at its “meadow camp” location, starting with constructing a new dormitory.

Camp officials confirmed that funding for the first dormitory is secured and plans have been submitted to the state for review. The process involves ensuring all fire, safety, and health regulations are met under state oversight.

“It is a long process,” the camp said. Pending favorable weather conditions and the completion of necessary paperwork, they hope to break ground on the $300,000 project before June 1.

The new dorm will add 20 beds to the meadow camp, bringing the current septic system to its capacity. The meadow camp area, which will eventually include the existing Macedonia dorm and the new construction, is also slated for other improvements.

Currently, the Macedonia dorm lacks adequate meeting space. To address this, the camp is upgrading one of its larger shelters to accommodate groups of over 100 people.

Future expansion plans for the meadow camp include the addition of three more dormitories, each estimated to cost around $300,000. These future dorms will also serve as a starting point for constructing a new worship facility at the meadow camp, a project anticipated to cost over $1 million. Additional septic system capacity will be necessary to support the increased number of campers as the meadow camp grows.

Wonder Valley Christian Camp emphasized its commitment to maintaining and upgrading facilities at its main camp location alongside the development of the meadow camp.

Looking ahead, the camp also hopes to begin the process of building a new staff house to accommodate more full-time staff on-site, aiming to better serve the growing needs of Wonder Valley.
