Orleans reminds residents: Keep grass clippings out of streets to prevent flooding

ORLEANS – The Orleans Street Department is urging residents to refrain from blowing grass clippings into town streets and roadways, emphasizing that this practice is prohibited by local ordinance.

Officials say that depositing grass clippings in the streets contributes to the clogging of storm drains, which are already under strain during periods of heavy rainfall. This blockage exacerbates the town’s flooding issues by preventing proper water runoff.

While town crews regularly inspect and clear storm sewer grates, the Street Department is also encouraging property and business owners to participate actively in flood prevention efforts. Residents are asked to help keep storm drain grates clear of trash, sticks, and limbs to ensure that stormwater can flow freely.
