BLOOMINGTON– Troopers from the Indiana State Police’s Bloomington District conducted traffic and criminal patrols during Little 500 weekend festivities.
The Little 500 is a celebration of Hoosier spirit and philanthropy, culminating in two exciting bike races on the quarter-mile cinder track at Bill Armstrong Stadium.
Twenty-four Troopers conducted criminal and traffic patrols on Friday, April 25th, and Saturday, April 26th, covering more than 35 shifts. The patrols emphasized seatbelt compliance, criminal violations, and Operating While Intoxicated (OWI) enforcement.
Troopers initiated 312 traffic stops, resulting in 136 traffic citations, 32 of which were for seatbelt violations. District Troopers issued 246 warnings during the weekend and investigated two (2) crashes. Regarding OWI enforcement, Bloomington District Troopers administered 44 Portable Breath Tests (PBTs) and Standard Field Sobriety Tests (SFSTs), resulting in the arrest of 13 suspected impaired drivers. In the course of initiating 20 cases, Troopers made 43 criminal arrests, including eight (8) alcohol violations conducted by minors.

The Troopers worked with the Indiana University Police Department, the Bloomington Police Department, the Ellettsville Police Department, and the Indiana State Excise Police to help ensure that those attending the Little 500 weekend festivities had a safe and enjoyable weekend.
