Indiana State Police Investigating Inmate Death at Tippecanoe County Jail

TIPPECANOE CO. – At the request of the Tippecanoe County Sheriff’s Office, detectives from the Indiana State Police Bureau of Investigations are investigating an inmate death that occurred at the Tippecanoe County Jail.

On Friday, April 25, while conducting routine checks of the jail cells, deputies located an unresponsive inmate. Jail staff immediately rendered medical aid and requested emergency medical services. The inmate was transported to a Lafayette-area hospital, where the inmate remained under medical care until Monday, April 28, 2025, when the inmate passed away.

A preliminary investigation indicates the injuries were self-inflicted, and no foul play is suspected.

The Tippecanoe County Coroner’s Office will release the identity of the inmate and the exact cause of death.
