BNL rolls to 19-1 victory over Mitchell

BNL pitcher Karsyn Coleman and the Stars shut down Mitchell on Monday afternoon.

MITCHELL – Bedford North Lawrence overpowered Mitchell 19-1 during high school softball action on Monday.

The Stars cranked out 12 hits and took advantage of 10 walks to swarm the Bluejackets in five innings during the renewal of the county rivalry.

”The girls played well,” BNL coach Brad Gilbert said. “They came off the bus ready to go.”

Tori Nikirk paced the offensive attack with three hits, Kendall Graves drove in four runs with a double and triple, and Ava Ratliff banged out two extra-base hits. Sara Williams also had two hits.

”It could have been a difficult night to hit, coming off what we saw last weekend at Center Grove, in terms of velocity,” Gilbert said. “We’ve had games where it was hard to adjust.”

Karsyn Coleman earned the win in the circle. She didn’t allow a hit until Mitchell (2-7) scored in the fifth on Paisley Modglin’s RBI single. Coleman, with Adalynn Bailey making a terrific play at second base, was dominant against her former team.

”She wanted the ball,” Gilbert said. “I’m sure there were some emotions. She pitched well.”

BNL (12-7) will host Jeffersonville on Tuesday.
