Public health alert issued for multiple soup and bowl brands over potential wood contamination

INDIANA– The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) has issued a public health alert for various soup and bowl products due to potential contamination with foreign material, specifically wood. The contamination may be present in an FDA-regulated ingredient, cilantro, used in these products.

The affected products were sold under several popular brands, including Campbell’s, Health Request, Molly’s Kitchen, Sysco, Verve, and Crafted Market.

According to the FSIS, these potentially contaminated items were shipped to retail and institutional locations in Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, and Ohio. The agency anticipates that additional products may be identified, potentially expanding the impact of this alert nationwide.

The issue was discovered when an FSIS-regulated establishment notified the agency that an ingredient regulated by the Food and Drug Administration was being recalled due to the presence of foreign material.

The FSIS is concerned that consumers and institutions may still have these products in their refrigerators or freezers. Individuals who have purchased these items are strongly urged not to consume them, and institutions are advised not to serve them. The affected products should be immediately thrown away or returned to the place of purchase.

Consumers are advised to check the official FSIS website frequently for updates, as additional products may be added to the alert.
