SILVERVILLE – A Silverville man has been arrested and charged with murder following a fatal shooting that occurred Friday evening in the 200 block of State Road 158.
The Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office dispatch center received a 911 call reporting a shooting at approximately 8:30 p.m. on Friday, April 11th. Deputies were immediately dispatched to the location and, upon arrival, discovered 47-year-old Chad McMaken, deceased from an apparent gunshot wound.

Based on initial information obtained during the emergency call, Kameron McMaken, the 22-year-old son of the deceased, was identified as the individual who allegedly shot his father during an argument. When law enforcement officers arrived, Kameron was still present at the residence and was taken into custody without incident.

Detectives and command staff from the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene to initiate a comprehensive investigation. Throughout the night, investigators conducted multiple interviews with witnesses and with the alleged shooter, Kameron McMaken.
Search warrants, issued by the Honorable Judge Nathan Nikirk of Lawrence County Circuit Court, were obtained and executed at the residence. This led to the collection of crucial evidence, including the suspected firearm used in the shooting.
As a result of the investigation, Kameron was arrested on the lead charge of murder, aggravated battery, and criminal recklessness with a firearm. He was officially booked into the Lawrence County Jail at approximately 7:00 a.m.
During the response and investigation, the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office received assistance from several agencies, including the Lawrence County Prosecutor’s Office, Indiana State Police Crime Scene Investigators, the Lawrence County Coroner’s Office, IU Health EMS, and the Indian Creek Volunteer Fire Department.
Lawrence County Sheriff Greg Day commended his officers’ swift response and thorough investigative work and expressed his gratitude to all assisting agencies for their collaboration.
All criminal defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
