WASHINGTON, Ind. – Daviess County is taking a proactive step in supporting individuals and families impacted by the tragedy of suicide with the launch of a new Local Outreach for Suicide Survivors (LOSS) Team. The initiative, led by Daviess County Coroner Dr. Tyler Counsil, aims to provide immediate, in-person support to those left behind.
The LOSS Team will be dispatched to the scene following a suicide, offering comfort, guidance, and crucial mental health resources to survivors during a tough time. The program seeks to not only provide immediate support but also to raise broader awareness about the profound impact of suicide loss and its subsequent mental health implications within the community.

Dr. Counsil said the goal is to be there in those initial, critical moments to offer support and connect grieving individuals with the resources they need to navigate their loss. The goal is to let survivors know they are not alone and that help is available.
The initiative also aims to expand regionally in the future, extending this vital support network to neighboring communities.
The Daviess County LOSS Team will be comprised of trained volunteers, including clinical professionals experienced in grief and trauma, as well as individuals who have personally experienced the loss of a loved one to suicide. This peer support element is considered a vital component of the program, offering a unique understanding and empathy to those newly bereaved.
Recruitment for volunteers is currently underway. Individuals interested in learning more about the LOSS Team or wishing to get involved are encouraged to contact Dr. Tyler Counsil directly at [email address removed].
The launch of the Daviess County LOSS Team is a collaborative effort with support from local organizations.
