Mitchell Middle School girls spark creativity with candle making at Ellie Mae’s Boutique

BLOOMINGTON—Students from Mitchell Middle School’s Young Women United Mentoring Program enjoyed a memorable and enriching field trip this week. The trip combined creativity and community exploration. The girls, who participated in the program to provide guidance and build confidence, spent the day in Bloomington’s Fountain Square Mall.

The highlight of their trip was a hands-on candle-making session at Kirkwood Candle Bar, located inside Ellie Mae’s Boutique. The students were allowed to create their custom candles, fostering creativity and teamwork. The Ellie Mae’s Boutique team went above and beyond in hosting the large group of 33 students, providing an engaging and supportive environment.

The students visited Brightside Café for a well-deserved sweet treat after their creative endeavors. The café staff rose to the challenge of serving the enthusiastic group, providing exceptional service and a warm, welcoming atmosphere.

The Young Women United Mentoring Program plays a crucial role in the lives of these young girls, offering guidance, encouragement, and experiences that build confidence and strengthen connections. This field trip allowed the students to explore their community and discover future possibilities.

The school expressed heartfelt gratitude to Ellie Mae’s Boutique staff, Brightside Café, and all the businesses within Fountain Square Mall for their hospitality and for making the day so memorable and meaningful for the students. The experience fostered creativity and teamwork and provided a valuable opportunity for the girls to connect with their community.
