Daviess and Martin Counties grapple with power outages following EF-1 tornado and severe storms

DAVIESS/MARTIN CO.— Residents across Daviess and Martin Counties still face significant power outages after severe storms swept through the region over the weekend. The Daviess-Martin County REMC sustained extensive damage, leaving hundreds without electricity.

The National Weather Service (NWS) has confirmed that an EF-1 tornado touched down in Daviess County shortly after 4:10 a.m. on Saturday, causing widespread damage. The most significant impact was reported at a local farm, with the town of Loogootee also experiencing considerable wind damage.

The storms severely damaged the Daviess-Martin County REMC infrastructure, with downed trees, equipment, and structural damage to the REMC building itself. Crews worked tirelessly through the night, navigating challenging conditions to restore power and deploy necessary equipment across both counties.

The REMC outage map indicates that slightly over 500 customers remain without power.
