Obituary: William Collins

April 23, 1936 – March 14, 2025

William Collins, 88, of Bedford, passed away on Friday, March 14, 2025, at Majestic Care Bedford.

Born April 23, 1936, in Corbin, KY, he was the son of Yancy and Frances Elizabeth (McLaughlin) Collins. He first married Billie Hammack on September 30, 1955, and she preceded him in death on March 17, 2010. William then married Lee Etta Wade on August 20, 2011, and she preceded him in death on July 12, 2021. He was a machine operator for Extruded Alloys for sixteen years and PTG for five years. He was an Army veteran and a member of the Indiana National Guard. William was a member of the Oolitic Trinity Pentecostal Church. In his younger years, he was an avid deer hunter and enjoyed fishing and watching sports.

Survivors include three stepchildren, Pam Melvin and husband Randy of Bedford, Leroy Wade of Bedford, and Jerry Wade and wife Kim of Mitchell; six step-grandchildren; one step-great-grandchild; and three sisters, Shirley Tolliver of Anderson, Nancy Davis of Bedford, and Carolyn Beasley of Martinsville.

He was preceded in death by his parents, both wives, two daughters, Terry Lynn Collins and Anita Darlene Collins, and one brother, Harrison Dean Collins.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, March 18th, in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary, with Pastor Marty Speer officiating. Gillon Post #33 American Legion members will accord military rites. Burial will follow in Beech Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until the hour of service on Tuesday at the Day & Carter Mortuary. Donations may be made in William’s memory to the Oolitic Trinity Pentecostal Church.
