Scouts from local troops 2269 and 2516 visited Bedford Town Hall on Thursday. Mayor Craig gave them a guided tour and introduced them to the inner workings of city government. The Scouts were attentive and excited, asking several questions as the mayor showed them the various departments, introduced city employees, and explained their roles in serving the community.

Mayor Craig also shared some history about Town Hall and Bedford’s past mayors before concluding the visit with the reading of a proclamation declaring March 12 as “Girl Scout Day.”

Kyah Hert, ambassador and Lawrence County representative in her sixth year of scouting, reflected on her favorite part of being a Scout. “Probably for me, my favorite part is camping and being around my troop. They are so much fun,” Hert said. When asked about meeting the mayor and her thoughts on the occasion, she added, “I don’t know. It was really cool.”

Scoutmaster Coey Ohwow-Godsey expressed gratitude for the recognition. “We’re really grateful to live in a community that acknowledges the work these girls do, and we are really proud of the recognition,” she said.

The newly declared “Girl Scout Day” celebrates the contributions and achievements of local Scouts while reinforcing the city’s support for youth programs and leadership development.
