BEDFORD– A routine traffic stop in Bedford led to the discovery of methamphetamine on Nov. 20, 2024, according to law enforcement officials.
Officer Landon Jones of the Bedford Police Department conducted a traffic stop at the intersection of 5th Street and Lincoln Avenue on a white 2022 Kia with Illinois license plate CY64169. Lawrence County Police Department Officer Andrew Tillett arrived to assist, along with Bedford Officer Steven Hatton and LCPD Officer Kenton Carter.

During the stop, officers asked the driver, identified as Kristie Deckard, to step out of the vehicle. Officer Jones suspected Kristie was intoxicated and requested a K9 search. Officer Carter’s K9 conducted a “free air sniff” around the vehicle and gave a positive alert for narcotics.
A subsequent probable cause search of the vehicle led to the discovery of a loose white crystal substance in the center console and a compartment within the console. Based on training and experience, officers identified the substance as suspected methamphetamine. A field test confirmed the presence of methamphetamine.
The suspected methamphetamine, including packaging, weighed approximately 0.3 grams. No additional evidence was found in the vehicle.
The seized substance was collected and secured as evidence. Deckard was charged with possession of meth under 5 grams.
Those arrested are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
