Bedford resident Chase Cummings will serve as chairman of the Lawrence County Republican Party

LAWRENCE COUNTY- Chase Cummings will serve as Chairman of the Lawrence County Republican Party. Cummings replaces Heath Hawkins, who chose not to seek a second four-year term. Cummings was voted in by Lawrence County’s precinct committeemen and vice precinct committeemen Saturday. He was nominated by Sam Bond, which was a great vote of confidence for Cummings. Bond also previously served as a local party chairman.

“This is an honor for me,” Cummings said. “I truly love the Republican Party, so being able to help guide our party on the local level for the next four years is an amazing opportunity.”

From L to R: Vice-Chairwoman, Connie Koch; Chairman, Chase Cummings; Treasurer, McKenzie Spires; Secretary, Henry Shetler

Also voted in Saturday were Connie Koch as vice chairwoman, Henry Shetler as secretary, and McKenzie Spires as treasurer. They replace Nikki Smith, who had served as vice chairwoman alongside Hawkins, Ryan Griffith, secretary, and Travis Sanders, treasurer.

“I want to thank the outgoing central committee officers for their efforts to help guide, shape and strengthen the Lawrence County Republican Party,” Cummings said. “They provided for a smooth transition for myself, Connie, Henry and McKenzie, and we can’t thank them enough.”

This year is not an election year, but Cummings said the new central committee leaders plan to hit the ground running.

“My goal is to continually build the Republican Party and its influence in Lawrence County, the State of Indiana and the United States,” Cummings said. “In order to do that, we need to bring more people in, getting them involved. I was asked by previous Republican Party Chairman Chris May to build the Lawrence County Young Republican Club, and we’ve been able to do that, getting more people involved on the local level. The central committee believes we must continue to do that, engaging all generations of Republicans.”

Cummings’ interest in the Republican Party started early. Born and raised in Lawrence County, he works as a barber in Bedford, but outside of his vocation, he has volunteered for several local and state election campaigns. He has also worked in various positions at the polls on Election Day to further his knowledge of the voting process.

“Together, I truly believe we can continue to grow the Republican Party without losing focus on our true conservative ideals,” Cummings said. “I am excited and grateful for this opportunity, and my team and I look forward to serving the Grand Old Party with enthusiasm and dedication for the ideals we hold dearly. Thank you to everyone who has helped make this possible for us. We look forward to serving the Lawrence County Republican Party. I see continued greatness and a bright future for Republicans in Lawrence County and across our great nation!”
