JASPER – Bedford North Lawrence earned four second seeds during the IHSAA girls swimming sectional prelims on Thursday night.
The Stars finished second behind Jasper in all three relays, while Ava Lipp was seeded second in the 100-yard backstroke. The winners of each event will qualify for the state finals in Indianapolis on Feb. 14.
“It was a great night overall as we positioned ourselves to accomplish our team goal of second place,” BNL coach Adam Young said. “The girls will shave up and suit up for Saturday, and I expect even more time drops. It’s hard to have such a long day and still turn in great performances.”
The Stars were second in the 200 medley relay as Lipp, Emma Heinzman, Cookie King and Francesca Orozco clocked 2:01.75. BNL was second in the 200 freestyle relay with Orozco, Avery Brown, Mia Manke and Sabrina Lipp posting 1:49.19. In the 400 free relay, King, both Lipps and Manke finished in 4:05.17.
Lipp clocked 1:04.39 in the backstroke.
The sectional finals are set for Saturday afternoon.
