BEDFORD – A Bedford woman was arrested early Saturday morning on multiple charges after a Bedford Police officer witnessed her driving erratically on 5th Street.
At approximately 1:00 a.m., Bedford Police Officer Taylor Daugherty observed 33-year-old Lindsey Hughes driving a black 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee erratically on 5th Street, crossing the center line multiple times. Officer Daugherty initiated a traffic stop at the intersection of Heltonville Road and Fellowship Drive.

During the stop, Officer Daugherty detected the odor of alcohol. Hughes admitted to consuming two beers. She was asked to perform Standardized Field Sobriety Tests, which she reportedly failed, exhibiting signs of impairment. A preliminary breath test registered a blood-alcohol of 0.105, well above the legal limit of 0.08.
Hughes was read her Miranda rights and consented to a certified chemical blood test at IU Health Bedford Hospital. At 2:07 a.m., two vials of blood were drawn.
Following the blood draw, Hughes was arrested and transported to the Lawrence County Jail. Her vehicle was inventoried, photographed, and towed by Stone City Collision.
Hughes is charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated, OWI Endangerment, and OWI per se.
Those facing criminal charges are considered innocent unless convicted through due legal proceedings. Accusations alone do not imply guilt; the judicial system will evaluate the presented evidence to reach a verdict.
