BEDFORD– During this morning’s commissioners’ meeting, Lawrence County Circuit Court Judge Nathan Nikirk announced the approval of a $41,000 Court Reform Security Grant.
Judge Nikirk said the grant would enhance security measures at the courthouse annex, ensuring a safer environment for employees, litigants, and the public.

The funding will cover the installation of security controls, including a secure sallyport at the rear entrance of the annex, new lighting, a safe door, and a holding cell for the two courts.
“No taxpayers’ money will be spent on the project,” emphasized Judge Nikirk.
McIntyre Bros, LLC submitted the winning bid for the project, and the county will soon sign a final contract with the company. The work is set to be completed by the end of 2025.
