INDIANA—Today, Derek Camp, a longtime Democratic leader and current Allen County Democratic Party Chair, officially announced his candidacy to become the next Chair of the Indiana Democratic Party. With over 15 years of experience as a strategist, organizer, and fundraiser, Camp is setting his sights on revitalizing the party and building a sustainable future for Democrats across the state.

“Hoosiers are ready for change,” Camp said during his announcement. “For too long, Republican leadership has left families behind while opportunities pass us by. But I believe in the promise of Indiana—a promise that we, as Democrats, have the power to fulfill.”
In his remarks, Camp laid out a clear vision for the party’s future:
- Rebuilding from the ground up: Strengthening county and district parties ensures every community has the tools to thrive.
- Expanding fundraising efforts: Creating a team of proven fundraisers to support candidates statewide.
- Empowering candidates: Ensuring every Hoosier has a choice at the ballot box by providing resources to Democratic candidates across Indiana.
- Partnering with organized labor: Advocating for stronger unions, stronger families, and a stronger Indiana.
Camp highlighted his record of success in Allen County, where he led the party to historic gains and raised more money than any other Democratic county party in the state over the past two years. As a former President of the Indiana Young Democrats, Camp also played a key role in hosting the 2019 National Convention, showcasing Indiana’s Democratic talent nationally.
“This isn’t about me,” Camp emphasized. “It’s about us—about what we can accomplish together when we focus on the values that unite us: fairness, opportunity, and a belief that every Hoosier deserves a shot at a better life.”
The announcement is critical for Indiana Democrats, following significant wins in 2023 under Chair Mike Schmuhl. Camp praised Schmuhl’s leadership but stressed the need to build on that foundation with sustained momentum and a long-term strategy for success.
As Camp looks ahead to the election for party chair, he’s calling on Democrats from all corners of the state to join him in the fight for Indiana’s future.
“Let’s rebuild, let’s expand, and show Hoosiers that a brighter future isn’t just a dream—it’s a promise we intend to keep,” Camp said. “Together, we can make it happen.”
