BEDFORD – On Saturday, January 25, at approximately 1:15 a.m., Bedford Police officers responded to Shorty’s Bar & Grill on 7th Street for a reported domestic disturbance.
Upon arrival, Officer Aaron Manke observed William Michael Johnson Jr. attempting to leave the parking lot in a red Chevy Equinox.

Johnson Jr. displayed signs of intoxication by having slurred speech and smelled of alcohol and was detained. A female then exited the bar and told police the vehicle was hers.
Further investigation revealed that Johnson Jr. had been involved in a physical altercation with multiple individuals, including throwing a female against a vehicle and striking another female in the face.
Johnson Jr. was administered field sobriety tests and a preliminary breath test, both of which indicated intoxication. A subsequent chemical breath test at the Bedford Police Department registered a blood alcohol content (BAC) of 0.163 percent.
Johnson Jr. was arrested on charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated with a prior conviction, OWI, and OWI endangerment and battery.
Those facing criminal charges are considered innocent unless convicted through due legal proceedings. Accusations alone do not imply guilt; the judicial system will evaluate the presented evidence to reach a verdict.
