The deputy was critically wounded during a routine traffic stop at the intersection of US 150 and State Road 56, where suspect Austin Schepers shot Andry four times, including once in the head. Schepers fled the scene but was located in Louisville on January 4th and was subsequently killed by law enforcement during the encounter.

Darian Andry posted this photo of her holding her husband’s hand on Facebook.

Darian Andry shared a detailed account of her husband’s medical journey, highlighting key milestones in his recovery:

  • On January 16th, Andry was taken off sedation and began breathing independently on the ventilator.
  • January 17th marked a significant moment when he opened his eyes for the first time since the incident.
  • By January 20th, he was removed from the ventilator and transitioned to supplemental oxygen.
  • January 22nd saw improved breathing, leading to reduced supplemental oxygen.
  • On January 23rd, he was approved for rehabilitation, pending bed availability.

His wife noted Deputy Andry is making purposeful movements, including scratching his face, repositioning himself, and even petting a therapy dog. While he is not yet following verbal commands, his neurosurgeon remains optimistic due to the purposeful movements on his left side.

Though Deputy Andry faces a long recovery, his wife remains hopeful and thanks everyone for their prayers, describing her husband as her “miracle and superhero.”
