BEDFORD– A local man, Albert A. Hughes, was arrested on Tuesday, October 8, following a series of disruptive incidents at his apartment complex on Industrial Park Drive. According to a probable cause affidavit, Hughes, 51, was reportedly intoxicated and causing a disturbance by banging on doors and yelling about stolen beer.

Police were first dispatched to the scene around 7:46 p.m. where they found Hughes leaning against a vehicle, exhibiting signs of heavy intoxication and incoherence. Officers noted a strong smell of alcohol emanating from Hughes, who claimed that someone had a key to his apartment and had taken his beer. After speaking with him, police advised Hughes to return to his apartment to avoid arrest.
However, after 8 p.m., officers received another call regarding the same issues. Witnesses reported that Hughes had been banging on their doors and yelling about the alleged theft of his beer. Officers located him at the bottom of the stairs, where he was instructed to keep his voice down and return to his apartment.
Refusing to comply, Hughes continued to yell, prompting officers to place him under arrest. According to the report, Hughes resisted by pulling away from the officers and tensing his body. After a brief struggle, he was successfully handcuffed and taken to a patrol vehicle.
A preliminary breath test administered at the scene showed Hughes had a blood alcohol content of 0.199. He was transported to the Lawrence County Jail on charges of disorderly conduct, public intoxication, and resisting law enforcement.
Those facing criminal charges are considered innocent unless convicted through due legal proceedings. Accusations alone do not imply guilt; the judicial system will evaluate the presented evidence to reach a verdict.
