Joan Bailey, 89, of Bedford, passed away at 11:21 a.m. on Friday, September 6, 2024, at her residence.
Born June 27, 1935, in Heltonville, she was the daughter of Earl and Eva (Sowders) Norman. She married Carl E. Bailey on March 11, 1952, and he preceded her in death on January 28, 2003. She had been Dunn Daycare’s director and worked at Bailey’s Flowers & Gifts. She was a lifelong Bedford First Church of God member and attended Hillcrest Christian Church. She was president of the ladies’ group CWC and enjoyed cooking for others and visiting with friends and neighbors.
Survivors include four children: Carla Bailey, of Indianapolis; Bryant Bailey and wife, Jennifer, of NC; April Leatherbury and husband, Hugh, of Fayetteville, and Robin Bailey and wife, Laura, of Bedford; twelve grandchildren, Deanna Riley and husband, Matt, Shayna Davidson, Crystal Chaplin and husband, Kevin, Angela Bailey, Craig Bailey and wife, Trisha, Tricia Mitchell and husband, Brian, Emily Bailey, Catherine Leatherbury, Ben Leatherbury and wife, Michelle, Trent Bailey and wife, Maria, Abigail Leatherbury and fiancé, Matt, and Connor Bailey; 25 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren and one on the way; a brother, Larry Joe Norman, of Heltonville; a sister, Colleen Perry, of Bedford; special friends, Jackie Barber and family; several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a son, Terry Bailey; a granddaughter, Sami Bailey; a great-granddaughter, Kyndell Bailey; seven brothers and one sister.
Funeral services will be conducted at Noon on Thursday, September 12, 2024, at the Hillcrest Christian Church, with Pastor Charlie Scott and Pastor Jimmy Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in the Meadows Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 11, 2024, at the Day & Carter Mortuary and from 10:00 a.m. until the hour of service on Thursday at the Hillcrest Christian Church.
