Man fatally shot in self-defense during armed confrontation in Daviess County

DAVIESS CO. – The Daviess County Sheriff’s Department has concluded its investigation into a fatal shooting that occurred at a residence on State Road 257, just north of the Veale Creek bridge.

On Monday, September 3, at approximately 8:17 p.m., Daviess County Central Dispatch received a report from a homeowner regarding an altercation between her husband and a man who had pulled into their driveway.

The confrontation involved the homeowner, David Goble, and the other man, Kevin Wilson, both armed. Shots were fired during the encounter, resulting in Wilson’s death.

According to authorities, Wilson, 59, from Washington, arrived at the Goble property with a firearm and initiated an argument. Despite multiple warnings from Goble to leave the property, Wilson advanced towards the porch while pointing a handgun at Goble. In an act of self-defense, Goble fired two shots, which caused Wilson to retreat towards his vehicle, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

Officials noted that Wilson had a history of mental health issues, and there was no prior relationship between the two men.

The investigation is still ongoing, and the Daviess County Prosecutor’s Office will review the final report.

Several agencies, including the Washington Police Department and Indiana State Police, assisted the Daviess County Sheriff’s Department in the investigation.
