Natural Disaster Recovery Grant helps communities recover their tree canopy impacted by natural disasters

INDIANA— According to the National Weather Service, Indiana averages 22 yearly tornadoes. As a country, the US average is 1,402 per year, but as of July 17, the US had already had more than 1,421. With extreme weather events like this expected to increase, our urban tree canopy will likely continue to be negatively affected.

The DNR CUF program has developed a grant program specifically for helping communities recover some of their tree canopy from past extreme weather events and plan for future events.

Communities that have had their tree canopy impacted by natural disasters and would like to plant trees in the affected area and get help planning for future events may now apply for funding through our Natural Disaster Recovery (NDR) Grant.
