Two-vehicle accident claims life of motorcyclist

BLOOMINGTON – A two-vehicle accident on Sunday claimed the life of a motorcyclist.

On Sunday, June 9, at approximately 5:42 p.m., the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office responded to the 2020 Dodge Durango and Yamaha motorcycle accident at East Dillman Road and South Old State Road 37.

Preliminary investigation from witnesses indicated that the motorcyclist was driving east on East Dillman Road toward Old State Road 37 at a high rate of speed and disregarded the stop sign at the intersection.

The Dodge Durango was traveling north on Old State Road 37, and a collision occurred between the SUV and motorcycle.

Deputies performed lifesaving measures on the motorcyclist, including CPR and deploying
an AED, but were unsuccessful. The driver was later pronounced dead by the Monroe County Coroner’s
Office.

The Monroe County Coroner’s Office is working to identify the driver and notify family members.

The Monroe County Crash Reconstruction team is still investigating the crash.

Monroe County Fire Protection District, IU Health LifeLine ambulance, Monroe County Coroner’s Office, and the Bloomington City Police Department also responded.
