INDIANA – Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) poses a significant challenge, impacting not only the individuals who experience trauma but also their caregivers. Approximately 5 percent of the United States population, or 13 million people, suffer from PTSD each year. Those living with PTSD and their caregivers must understand that effective treatments are available and can substantially enhance the quality of life for trauma survivors and their families.

June is PTSD Awareness Month, and VA wants to raise awareness throughout the month and the entire year about the potential for positive change through effective PTSD treatment. Visit the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) National Center for PTSD webpage to learn how to Raise Awareness, Spread the Word, Partner with VA, Understand PTSD, and Get Support.
As we honor PTSD Awareness Month, the Caregiver Support Program (CSP) also recognizes the strength and resilience within each of you.
To caregivers, your role is profound. You provide unwavering support, empathy, and understanding. Your patience and compassion create a safe space for Veterans to navigate their emotions and memories. Your commitment to their well-being gives them hope in their darkest moments.
To Veterans, your courage is an inspiration. You face adversity with bravery, and your journey toward healing is a testament to your strength. Remember, reaching out for help is not a sign of weakness but a testament to your strength. You are not alone in this journey, and there is no shame in asking for help.
