Call of a woman sleeping in a vehicle, arrested on drug charges

BEDFORD – A Bedford woman was arrested on Tuesday, June 4th, after Bedford Police officers responded to a call of a woman sleeping in a vehicle at Storage Express on O Street.

The caller said the woman was sleeping in a red Chevrolet HHR.

When Officer Sarah Haluda arrived, she found a woman passed out in a running vehicle parked between storage garages.

The woman was 29-year-old Chelsea Talmage.

Officer Haluda knocked on the vehicle window and woke Talmage. She told police she was homeless and was taking a nap in her vehicle. Police detected the odor of marijuana emitting from the vehicle.

When asked if there were drugs in the vehicle, Talmage got defensive and said she did not have any drugs but then admitted she lied. She was asked to step out of the vehicle and refused. She was asked to step out of the car again, and Officer Haluda opened the door. Talmage complied.

Sgt. Toby Gerkin spoke to Talmage while Officer Haluda searched the vehicle. She found a baggie with four grams of marijuana, a baggie of Fentanyl and Suboxone pills, and a baggie with 12 grams of crystal meth and THC vape cartridges.

Talmage told Sgt. Gerkin that there have been several people in her vehicle recently and that the
items I located were left with her by someone “because they trust her.” Talmage was given numerous
opportunities to tell me who would have left these items in her vehicle but refused to do so.

Talmage was arrested on charges of possession of meth, possession of a controlled substance, possession of marijuana, and drug paraphernalia.

Animal control picked up Talmage’s dog.

Stone City Service and Collision Center towed Talmage’s vehicle.
