Traffic stop lands man in jail on drug and firearm charges

SCOTT CO. – Vigilant patrols by Scott County Sheriff’s deputies resulted in a drug and failure to register as a sex offender arrests.

On Wednesday, May 22, at approximately 12:14 a.m., Deputy Jalen Nierman and Corporal Zachary Brown were on patrol in the City of Scottsburg when they witnessed a traffic violation. A traffic stop was initiated in the Speedway parking lot, near the State Road 56 and I-65 overpass.

The driver of the vehicle, Anthony W. Adams, 42, of North Vernon, had a suspended driver’s license and was wanted on a warrant in Johnson County.

Additionally, Adams had moved to Scottsburg approximately 30 days ago and had failed to register as a sex offender as required by state law.

Deputy Kacey Reschar, alongside K-9 Karma, alerted officers to drugs in the vehicle.

Police found Adams with meth, fentanyl, cocaine, and a loaded handgun.

Adams was arrested and transported to the Scott County jail without incident on charges of possession of meth, possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, maintaining a common nuisance, failure to register as a sex offender, possession of a legend drug, operating a vehicle while never licensed, driving while driver’s license suspended, the warrant in Johnson County and possession of a handgun without a license.

Scottsburg City Police Department officers assisted at the scene.
