Man arrested after 911 caller reports impaired driver passed out at intersection

JUDAH – State Trooper Jesse Crane was on patrol on Tuesday, May 21 at 11:30 p.m. when he received an alert about a possible impaired driver on State Road 37 at the intersection of Old State Road 37.

The 911 call reported the impaired driver was in a white GMC pickup and was passed out at the stoplight.

Trooper Crane found the vehicle in the middle of the intersection in the southbound lane stopped well past the solid white line. The brake lights were illuminated indicating the driver still had his foot on the brake.

Jacob R. Lloyd

Trooper Crane approached the driver 26-year-old Jacob R. Lloyd, who was found slumped over in the driver seat. Trooper Crane reached into the vehicle through an open window, unlocked the truck, opened the door, and placed the truck in park. He then woke Lloyd by performing a sternum rub.

Lloyd was under the influence. In the vehicle was a small glass jar containing THC wax in the cup holder.

Trooper Crane says Lloyd could not keep his balance and he was leaning on his truck. His speech was slurred, and his eyes were bloodshot.

Lloyd failed several field sobriety tests and was detained.

He was transported to IU Health Bedford Hospital for a blood draw.

His truck was towed.

Lloyd told Trooper Crane he placed the THC on cigarettes and smoked it. He also admitted to taking Xanax which he did not have a prescription for.

He was transported to jail but then back to the hospital to be medically cleared due to the level of his intoxication.

Lloyd is facing charges of operating a vehicle with a controlled substance in the body, OWI endangerment, and possession of marijuana
