Walter L. Montgomery, 89, of Padanaram, passed away Tuesday, May 21, 2024, at IU Health Hospice House, Bloomington.
He was born August 1, 1934, in Wichita, Kansas, to Thomas Walter and Minnie “Gertrude” Looney Montgomery. He married Wilma Hurt on September 5, 1953, and she survives.
Walter worked for Boeing Aircraft for 20 years as an aircraft inspector and was a maintenance man for over 40 years at Padanaram. He was of the Christian faith and an elder. He was Papa to all the young people who knew him.
Surviving to cherish his memory is his wife, Wilma; five daughters, Vickie Montgomery, Cindy (Alan) Gibbs, Brenda (Bobby) Wallace, Becky (James) Hill, and Monica (Alan) Felmy; 32 grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren; 20 great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mildred Holt and Kathy Montgomery; and several nieces and nephews.
Walter was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Richard Montgomery.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, May 25, 2024, at the Pavillion in Padanaram. Burial will follow in Holy Ground Cemetery. Visitation will be from noon until the hour of service at the Pavillion in Padanaram, also on Saturday, May 25.
