Angry man takes out his frustrations on an apartment staircase with circular saw, arrest made

BEDFORD – A Bedford man was arrested on a warrant after allegedly damaging a staircase at the Southview Terrace apartment complex on Ted Jones Drive.

Brandon Arthur

Police arrested 31-year-old Brandon Arthur on a charge of criminal mischief.

On April 1, 2024, Bedford Police Officer Jarrett Tedrow responded to the 3000 block and met with an employee of Pendragon Properties. The officer discovered that someone had taken a saw to cut through the staircase in several spots, making it unsafe to use. The staircase has also been detached from the wall.

A female tenant of the complex reported that 32-year-old Brandon Arthur was responsible for the damage.

The tenant stated Arthur was “crazy” and wanted to seek revenge on another tenant who lived in the building on an upper floor.

On April 5, police returned to the apartment building because Arthur was again cutting the staircase with a circular saw.

On April 6, Officer Tedrow spoke to Arthur, who confirmed he had damaged the staircase to expose structural issues that needed to be fixed. He also admitted to pulling the stairs away from the building “using his bare hands when angry.”

The information was forwarded to the Lawrence County Prosecutor’s Office, and a warrant was issued for Aurthur’s arrest.
