Bloomington shooting leads to one man deceased and another one behind bars

BLOOMINGTON – One person is dead, and another is behind bars after a shooting in the 2000 block of South Liberty Drive in Bloomington.

Bloomington Police officers responded at approximately 6:20 a.m. and found a man lying in the parking lot. He had suffered a fatal gunshot wound to the chest.

Investigators began checking the area where the body was found and located a van parked nearby with
what appeared to be a bullet hole through its windshield. Officers found a man sleeping in the van and woke him.

Scott Cooper

The man was identified as 56-year-old Scott A. Cooper, a transient. He was taken to the police department for questioning. After securing a search warrant, police found a loaded .380 caliber handgun inside the 2006 Chrysler Town & Country van Cooper was sleeping in.

After questioning, Cooper was arrested on a charge of murder.

Police also located the deceased man’s vehicle.

The identity of the victim is being withheld until the next of kin is notified.
