Springville man arrested after police find meth rolled up in dollar bill

HURON – A Springville man was arrested on meth and marijuana charges after a Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department deputy stopped his vehicle on Thursday, May 2, 2024.

William Chandler

Police detained 59-year-old William Chandler.

Officer Trueblood was on patrol on US 50 West at Ball Park Road when he saw a red Chevrolet HHR with a temporary license plate not securely fastened to the vehicle.

Officer Trueblood stopped the vehicle at US 50 West and Short Road and spoke to Chandler, the driver, and his female passenger.

Police say Chandler was extremely nervous.

Officer Tillett asked if there was anything illegal in the vehicle. Chandler said no, and he denied the officer’s request to search it.

The female passenger admitted there were marijuana roaches in her purse. Having probable cause, officers searched the HHR. They found a pack of cigarettes with a rolled-up dollar bill containing 0.97 grams of meth, two marijuana cigarettes, and a marijuana roach.

Chandler admitted the drugs belonged to him.

The female was released and picked up by a friend at the scene.
