Numerous 911 call lands man in jail for breaking into vehicles

BEDFORD—An arrest warrant was issued for a Bedford man about whom dispatchers received several 911 calls on February 18, 2023, around 6:00 p.m.

The callers reported a male breaking into vehicles at 4th and R Streets. The male was wearing a dark blue coat, black pants, and black shoes and was “walking weirdly.”

When Captain Dakoda Emmons arrived, he located a male who matched the description in the alley north of 4th Street between R Street and Lincoln Avenue.

Captain Emmons stopped the male.

David Cobb

The male was 39-year-old David Cobb. Police say he was intoxicated. Due to the multiple 911 calls, Cobb was placed in handcuffs. One caller reported that Cobb had attempted to break into her home, but the caller’s dogs ran him off. She then witnessed Cobb attempt to break into a Ford Expedition. She then watched him walk across the street and light a cigarette. She then watched him enter a Ford Escape and lost sight of Cobb. In the Ford Escape, police found a HART flashlight that did not belong to the vehicle owner. They secured it for evidence and DNA testing.

Police requested a warrant to obtain DNA from Cobb and sent it for testing. On April 27, 2023, they received the DNA results. However, there was an insufficient quantity of DNA for further analysis.

The information was forwarded to the Lawrence County Prosecutor’s Office, and a warrant was issued for Cobb’s arrest on charges of public intoxication and unauthorized entry to a motor vehicle.
