Two intoxicated teens detained at a playground

BEDFORD – On Friday, April 19th, at 7:35 p.m., two female juveniles were detained on a charge of illegal consumption.

Bedford Police Captain Emmons says officers were requested to the playground area of Thornton Park after a report of two intoxicated juveniles climbing on the playground equipment.

Officers Tedrow and Daugherty arrived at the scene to assist.

Captain Emmons located the two females walking near the tennis courts and stopped them. He could smell the alcohol on the teens. They were unsteady on their feet and had red blood-shot eyes.

When asked if they had been drinking, both denied the allegation. They submitted to a breath test. One had a blood-alcohol content of 0.069 percent, the other 0.108 percent. Both were detained and transported to the Bedford Police Department.

Lawrence County Juvenile Probation was contacted, and the teens were released to their parents with a promise to appear in court on May 24 at 9:00 a.m.
