Two arrested after man shot in Bloomington

BLOOMINGTON— Two people were arrested, and a man is in the hospital after a shooting at an apartment complex on Curry Pike Friday night.

According to a release from the Bloomington Police Department, officers responded to an apartment complex just before 11 p.m. after receiving a report of a shooting. When officers arrived, they found a 56-year-old male had suffered gunshot wounds. He was transported by ambulance to a local hospital, where he underwent emergency surgery.

Police learned two people had run from the scene. They found 19-year-old Annabella Jackson running across the Kroger parking lot. Police located 35-year-old Devance Gaylehide in a small patch of woods between the Kroger parking lot.

Police also found a gun wrapped in a sweatshirt.

Gayles, of Michigan City, faces charges of:

  • Attempted Murder, Level 1 felony
  • Burglary, Level 1 felony
  • Possession of a Firearm by a Serious Violent Felon, Level 4 felony
  • Criminal Recklessness, Level 5 felony
  • Pointing a Firearm, Level 6 felony

Jackson, of Bloomington, faces charges of:

  • Resisting Law Enforcement, Class A misdemeanor
  • Outstanding arrest warrant (violation of probation, original charge of Battery Resulting in Bodily Injury, Class A misdemeanor)

The Monroe County Sheriff’s Department and the Indiana State Police assisted in the investigation.
