BEDFORD – Bedford North Lawrence might be having trouble finding matches to fill its light schedule, but it has no trouble winning when there’s an opponent across the net.

The Stars won their fifth straight dual match, sweeping past Bloomfield 5-0 on Monday afternoon. Combined with their victory in the Paoli Invitational, BNL has lost only once. With weather cancellations causing schedule holes, the Stars (5-1) would love to find foes to plug the gaps.

Perhaps the word is out. BNL is playing well. That trend continued as the Stars dropped only four games in singles, and only one set at No.2 doubles was in doubt.

“We played well,” BNL coach Joni Stigall said. “Sometimes when you’re the better player on the court, it’s tough to not play down, and I think all our girls played at a high level tonight. Our scores show that on most courts. We gave up very few games and that’s what you shoot for when you know you’re the better team. I’m happy about that.”

The top of the lineup set the tone. Kenley Craig and Izzy Alldredge extended their match winning streak with a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Sadie Ross and Maddie Stone at No.1 doubles, while Becca Epping cruised to a 6-1, 6-0 triumph over Adalyn Figg at No.1 singles.

BNL’s Jessie Faubion strokes a shot during her match at No.2 doubles.

“We have a strong team, we’ve even across all the courts,” Epping said. “It was definitely a confidence boost. I’ve been hitting against my own errors, so it was taking a step back and being able to focus on just hitting the ball in rather the fact shots. That helped my game.”

In singles, Ava McKinney rolled past Anna Foltinova 6-0, 6-0 at No.2, and Nadia Anderson remained unbeaten this season with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Lani Graves at No.3.

At No.2 doubles, BNL’s Jessie Faubion and Meryl Klein conquered Lydia Wade and Annie Pegg 7-6 (9-6 in the tiebreaker), 6-3.

“They had some trouble in the first set with errors and net play, but the second set proved to be much better,” Stigall said. “We have the rest of the week to practice and work and improve on some things, unless a school will finally accept our invite to play.”

BNL will return to action in the Scottsburg Invitational on Friday.
