Stars finish second, third in Brownstown Relays

BNL’s Frank Decker cleared 12-0 in the pole vault as the Stars won that team event in the Brownstown Relays on Saturday.

BROWNSTOWN – Bedford North Lawrence finished second in the girls meet and third in the boys during the Brownstown Relays track meet on Saturday.

Corydon won the girls meet with 99 points, followed by the Stars (65), Brownstown (59), North Harrison (41) and Charlestown (16). Brownstown won the boys meet with 105 points, followed by Corydon (72), BNL (63), Charlestown (33) and North Harrison (25).

In the girls meet, BNL’s Francesca Orozco and Sammie Gratzer combined to win the shuttle team competition with a total height of 9-10. The Stars also won the freshman 400 relay, and they finished second in the 1600 and 3200 relays.

“I was very pleased with the performance today,” BNL girls coach Jason Webb said. “They competed in every event. We’ve seen a couple of them PR the last two meets. We’re continuing to see kids get better.”

In the boys meet, the Stars won the pole vault as Frank Decker had the best individual jump at 12-0 while teammate Oliver Brown cleared 10-0. BNL won the team shot put event as Tripp Stahl was second overall with a throw of 42-3, and Orion Hill was second overall in the discus at 134-9. BNL was also second in the 3200 relay.

“We did well, about as expected,” BNL boys coach Brett Deckard said. “The throwers hit personal records.”

The Stars will compete in the Seymour Invitatonal on Tuesday.
