Man violates protective order and is arrested

BEDFORD – A Bedford man was arrested on Monday, April 15th, after Bedford Police officers responded to the 2000 block of 6th Street after a report of a verbal altercation.

Ryan McFarland

When police arrived at 8:13 p.m., they spoke to 37-year-old Ryan McFarland, who they say was intoxicated. He had bloodshot eyes, slurred speech, and was unable to comprehend basic questions. Also in the apartment were an 18-year-old female and a young child.

When McFarland opened the door, he said, “Looking for mommy,” and asked if Officer Jarrett Tedrow is he had seen her. He told police he was looking for the young child’s mother and repeatedly asked officers to bring the woman back to him. He denied arguing with the woman before she left.

The 18-year-old told police the woman was at a neighbor’s apartment.

Police then learned that an active protective order prevented McFarland from contacting the woman. He was detained on a charge of invasion of privacy, but McFarland denied knowing such an order existed.

After detaining McFarland, they found the woman and spoke to her.

McFarland was given a preliminary breath test and had a blood alcohol level of 0.271 percent. He was transported to IU Health Bedford Hospital for medical clearance. After receiving medical treatment, McFarland was transported to the Lawrence County Jail for housing.
