Failure to dim headlights lands man in jail on meth charges

BEDFORD – A Medora man was arrested early Tuesday on drug charges after a Bedford Police officer stopped his vehicle for failing to dim his headlights for oncoming traffic.

Officer Christian Anderson said he was on patrol on Mitchell Road when he spotted a gray 2020 Nissan Altima traveling with its bright lights on. The driver was traveling south on Mitchell Road, and a semi-tractor trailer was traveling north. The driver of the Nissan failed to dim his lights for the oncoming driver.

Officer Anderson initiated a traffic stop.

Douglas Pearson

The driver, 58-year-old Douglas Pearson, was told why he was stopped and asked for his driver’s license. Officer Anderson learned Pearson was driving on a suspended driver’s license with a prior conviction.

Officer Anderson asked to search Pearson’s vehicle, and he denied the request and told the officer to get a search warrant.

Sgt. Faheem Bade arrived with his canine partner Zuzu. The dog alerted officers to drugs in the car.

During a vehicle search, police found a plastic baggy inside a Polar Pop cup. That baggy contained two smaller baggies that contained crystal meth.

Pearson was detained on charges of possession of meth and driving while driver’s license suspended with a prior conviction.

The car was inventoried and towed by Stone City Service and Collision Center.
