ILEARN testing begins soon; practice test available

INDIANA – Starting Monday, Indiana schools can begin offering the yearly ILEARN exam, which tests students in third to eighth grades on what they have mastered this school year.

The test, one of the most highly scrutinized Hoosier students take, shows how well students have met the state’s academic standards.

Indiana’s Learning Evaluation and Assessment Readiness Network (ILEARN) is the summative accountability assessment for Indiana students in grades three through eight and high school biology. ILEARN measures student achievement and growth according to Indiana Academic Standards for English/Language Arts for grades three through eight, Mathematics for grades three through eight, Science for grades four and six, and Social Studies for grade five.

Students must participate in the ILEARN Biology End-of-Course Assessment (ECA) upon completing the high school biology course to fulfill a federal participation requirement. The ILEARN U.S. Government ECA is available per state legislation as an optional assessment for students upon completing the high school U.S. Government course. A student may only have one test attempt for any given ILEARN assessment. There are no retest opportunities available for ILEARN assessments.

To help students prepare families, make sure your student has adequate meals and gets a full night’s rest before testing days. Also, instill confidence in your students.

Students at each grade level and for each subject can take short practice tests on the IDOE’s assessment portal website or at indiana.portal.cambiumast.com. To find the practice test questions, go to the “student released items repository site” section, choose your student’s grade level, and pick this school year’s ILEARN test. Families can find the scoring guides for the practice tests on the same website.
