Stars finish 8th in Washington Invitational

MONTGOMERY – Bedford North Lawrence finished eighth in the 20-team Washington Invitational during boys high school golf action at Country Oaks on Saturday.

The Stars posted a team total of 339. No.5 Evansville North won the event with 308, followed by No.15 Jasper (310), No.3 Bloomington South (311) and No.16 Floyd Central (319).

Drew McKee paced BNL with 80, while Tyler Bellush carded 84.

“Really proud of the way that we battled back today,” BNL coach Trey Turner said. “Some of the guys got off to a rough start, but they fought through some adversity and ended up posting some pretty good scores. That’s one of the things that I have been stressing to them. You have to forget about the last shot, good or bad, and focus on what you have next.

“We still left some strokes out there. I know there are some strokes to be gained just by playing smarter golf but I’m happy with the jump we made. We just need to build on today and keep working.”

BNL will host New Albany in its home debut at Otis Park on Thursday.
