Seymour sweeps past JC, BNL in opening meets

SEYMOUR – Seymour swept to wins over Jennings County and Bedford North Lawrence during high school track action on Thursday night.

The Owls won the boys meet with 74 points, followed by the Panthers (62) and Stars (32). In the girls meet, Seymour totaled 80 points to conquer Jennings (53) and BNL (31).

In the season-opening meets, under brutal weather conditions, for the Stars, Frank Decker won the pole vault in the boys meet with a leap of 13 feet. Tripp Stahl took the shot put, and Orion Hill was second in the discus. BNL’s 400 relay team also finished second.

“It was probably the coldest meet I’ve been to,” BNL boys coach Brett Deckard said. “Some kids did well in the first meet in arctic conditions.”

In the girls meet, BNL’s Paige Voigtschild won the 800-meter run and finished second in the 1600.

“The kids competed and did the best they could in the cold and rain,” BNL girls coach Jason Webb said.

BNL will host its home opener on April 11.
