BNL finishes fifth in Seymour Invitational

SEYMOUR – Bedford North Lawrence finished fifth in the 13-team Seymour Invitational during the boys high school golf season opener on Saturday at Shadowood.

The Stars carded a team total of 352. Bloomington South won the event with 307, while Guerin Catholic was second at 311.

Drew McKee paced BNL with a 79 while Dillon Lewis posted 87.

“We did some good stuff and some bad stuff,” BNL coach Trey Turner said. “I think there were some jitters on the first tee. We made some mistakes early in the round that we shouldn’t be making.

“We need to work on course management decisions and not trying to hit the hero shot when you get in a bad position. We have to take our medicine and avoid the big number. I’m proud of the way the guys fought back after a tough start. Drew hit the ball well and put himself in some spots to score. We have a lot to build on and learn from.”

South’s Happy Gilmore was the medalist with a 3-under 69.

BNL will compete in the Floyd Central Invitational on April 6.
