Traffic stop leads to dealing of methamphetamine and cocaine arrest

ANDERSON – On Saturday, March 23, 2023, at approximately 11:45 p.m., Trooper Clayton Fox patrolled the City of Anderson near South Madison Avenue and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard when he stopped a GMC pickup truck for a turn signal violation.

Trooper Fox spoke to the truck driver, who was identified as Arthur D. Scott, 62, of Anderson.  During the interaction, Trooper Fox recognized criminal activity indicators and requested assistance from a canine.

Anderson Police Sergeant Chaz Willis and his canine partner, Petra, arrived to assist Trooper Fox. K-9 Petra performed an open-air sniff of the truck and gave a positive indication of the presence of narcotics. Due to a positive canine alert on the vehicle, officers searched and found a small bag containing approximately six grams of methamphetamine, another small bag containing approximately one gram of crack cocaine, other drug paraphernalia, and over $1,300 in cash.

Trooper Fox arrested Scott and transported him to the Madison County jail without incident on the following charges:

  • Dealing Methamphetamine-Level 3 Felony
  • Dealing Cocaine-Level 5 Felony
  • Possession of Methamphetamine-Level 5 Felony
  • Possession of Cocaine-Level 6 Felony
  • Resisting Law Enforcement-Class A Misdemeanor
  • Driving While Suspended (Prior)-Class A Misdemeanor
